Worker uses Mainsaver Connect mobile maintenance solution

ABP invests £1.5 million in mobile solution

Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s largest ports group, has launched a programme to digitalise asset management across its network of 21 ports.

By investing £1.5 million ($1.8 million) in a mobile solution of this scale, ABP continues its efforts to drive digitalisation in the UK ports sector.

This expanded implementation, in conjunction with Mainsaver and Spidex, follows a successful pilot trial of the new technology at several ABP ports.

The trial ensured that both large and small ports were considered to fully test the practicalities of implementing and allocating work in a digital manner.

Mainsaver Connect is a mobile version of the Mainsaver Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), a US product backed by Spidex, a UK-based developer.

Mike McCartain, ABP’s Group Director of Safety, Engineering and Marine, commented: “Going digital with our asset management is an important step in building the sustainable Ports of the Future, where information is shared accurately and instantaneously”.

The mobile device rollout will include the deployment of hundreds of tablets and focused training sessions for engineers across ABP’s regions.

The deployment will be carried out in tandem across ABP’s business areas of the Humber, Southampton, and Wales, and will be led by a senior ABP person in each region, according to the company’s recent statement.

Nicole Geraghty, ABP Port Planner (Maintenance), said: “I really look forward to working with this powerful new tool.”

Geragthy noted that it will enable access to ‘real time’ information, saving ABP’s technical teams time and eventually allowing them to make educated decisions based on accurate information.

“It is an exciting time at ABP as we see investments not only in digitalisation but also in upskilling our people and electrifying plant, cranes, vehicles as part of our ambition to make port operations more sustainable,” explained Geragthy.

This latest investment in digitalisation builds on ABP’s forward-thinking steps taken in 2021, when the Port of Southampton became the first British port to install a private 5G network.

Launched on 28 February, the strategy sets out a plan to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions from ABP’s own operations by 2040.

SOWEGA Baconton Power Reaches 20 Years with Mainsaver Software

San Diego, CA – February 25, 2020: Nestled among the pecan, peanut and cotton farms of Southwest Georgia, SOWEGA Baconton Power has 300 megawatts at the ready for when the demand arises. The plant has used the Mainsaver Enterprise Asset Management Software since 2001 for work management and procurement. In 2020 SOWEGA Baconton Power upgraded Mainsaver to the latest release and added the Connect mobility module which extends maintenance functionality to smart devices including IOS and Android tablets and phones.

Work orders are assigned to Maintenance technicians. The technicians can see their work orders on a Windows computer, a web browser or a smart device. The Connect App also allows the technician to review asset history, spare parts and job plans from their smart devices. Work is completed and reviewed by the Maintenance Supervisor before closure. Mainsaver Professional Services continues to work with the plant to enhance the use of the tools available with Mainsaver Software.

About the Baconton Power Facility

The Baconton Power LLC facility is a simple cycle combustion turbine facility consisting of four GE dual fan aero-derivate units. Each unit is rated at 49.5 MW each. The plant is operated by PIC Group Inc. under a long term operating and maintenance agreement with Grady EMC, an electrical distribution cooperative located in Southwest Georgia. The company’s 3,300 miles of line provide power to more than 19,000 meters in its service area.

Mainsaver integrates to Pures Food Financial System

Mainsaver Software announces it has recently completed an application integration to the Purchasing / Financial system for Pures Food Specialties. Pures is a leading cookie manufacturing company headquartered just outside of Chicago in Broadview, IL. The integration will allow Purchase Orders to be created in Mainsaver and transmitted to the corporate financial system. Also, follow up goods receipts will be created in Mainsaver and transmitted against the PO’s in the financial system. Invoicing of the purchase orders will continue to take place in the financial system and a 3-way match performed between the PO, receipt, and invoice. Any adjustments in the price of goods or services as a result of the financial 3-way match are then transmitted back to Mainsaver, to update MRO part prices, etc.

The interface also includes additional supporting data sharing between systems, to include Part and Services Vendors and Suppliers. The new integration will streamline the procurement process for Pures system users, eliminating double entry of data, reducing errors, and significantly improving efficiency.

Glendinning to set auditability in stone with Mainsaver CMMS

E & JW Glendinning, a leading supplier of concrete, asphalt and aggregate products, has selected Spidex’s Mainsaver CMMS to support improvements in the auditability of its engineering operations. Glendinning is a family company founded over 50 years ago with its roots in quarrying. Today, it delivers a complete end-to-end service from multiple sites across Devon and Cornwall that also includes manufacturing, logistics and civil engineering.

The impetus for looking at computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) was a desire for more detailed information on Glendinning’s substantial inventory of plant assets and the maintenance works carried out on them to further improve compliance. Operations Manager Mark Glendinning explains: “There is an ever-increasing onus on all manufacturing operations to be more auditable. Our main objective from procuring a CMMS is to create a central resource in which all engineering works carried out by the teams on our fixed assets are recorded. This will create an auditable chain of accountability for each maintenance task we complete.”

While researching the various CMMS options available, Mark Glendinning received a recommendation from one of the company’s maintenance technicians who had used Mainsaver CMMS in a similar role previously. His opinion was that it was ideally suited to heavy industrial operating environments but also straightforward and uncomplicated to use. On that basis, Spidex was invited to conduct some general demonstrations of Mainsaver’s capabilities. Encouraged by what they saw, Glendinning’s CMMS project team then asked to see the system operating in a ‘live’ environment. A visit to the manufacturing facility of an existing Spidex customer was duly arranged to show Mainsaver in action.

Whitecourt Power implements Mainsaver

San Diego, CA – October 7, 2019: Mainsaver Software continues to expand its presence in the Biomass Energy sector and announced today its flagship software product was recently selected for implementation at
Capstone Infrastructure’s power generation facility in Whitecourt, Alberta Canada. Whitecourt Power is a biomass generation site that uses wood waste as a fuel source to generate electric power for the Alberta Power Grid.

The biomass generation site will implement a full complement of Mainsaver modules and utilize the software to manage both corrective and preventive maintenance processes, as well as MRO inventory and procurement.
A complete and comprehensive data conversion from an existing system will also be performed as part of the implementation, to ensure a seamless transfer of historical data. The project is scheduled for completion by end of year 2019.

About Whitecourt Power
The Whitecourt Power facility, which is made up of one steam turbine and one generator, uses wood waste to generate electricity. Fluidized bubbling bed boiler combustion is the principal technology for the conversion of
biomass for electricity production. The combustion process generates hot gases that in turn produce steam, which is then used to generate electricity in the turbine/generator. The electricity generated by the Whitecourt facility is sold under a long-term power purchase agreement and is delivered to Alberta’s power grid. Whitecourt was the first power generating facility in Canada to be certified under the federal government’s EcoLogo™ program, which recognizes products and services that adhere to stringent environmental standards and practices.

Of the five new sites, four are biomass fueled plants and one is a hydroelectric plant.

As with the other Atlantic Power sites, the new additions will be deployed on Mainsaver’s state of the art Cloud based hosting platform. All sites will utilize Mainsaver’s full complement of functionality for managing both Corrective and Preventive Maintenance, as well as Material Management and Procurement/Purchasing. All five locations are expected to be fully operational on Mainsaver by year end.
